Successful training on responsible wine consumption in Germany

Abstract

Vocational school seminars on “Wine consumption between enjoyment and risk” are part of the German implementation of the international prevention programme Wine in Moderation. In addition to basic information on legal issues, such as applicable laws (Youth Protection Act, alcohol regulation in road traffic), the seminars also provide self-regulatory rules of wine advertising as well as health effects of the use and abuse of alcoholic beverages in general and wine in particular. By means of questionnaires on the basic knowledge of the vocational students, the knowledge was assessed before the seminar (T1), immediately afterwards (T2) and about 6 months later (T3). The results of the last three years, as well as those of previous years, speak for the sustainable success of these information events.

Pesticide – Free viticulture: towards agroecological wine-producing socio-ecosystems

Can we cultivate grapevine without pesticides? This is a huge challenge for this emblematic crop, which is one of the largest users of plant protection products. Pesticides are mainly used to protect the vine against leaf diseases (powdery mildew, mildew, black-rot), even in organic farming, which uses copper in particular. What are the research avenues that can help eliminate pesticides today?

Use of glutathione and a selected strain of metschnikowia pulcherrima as alternatives to sulphur dioxide to inhibit natural tyrosinase of grape must and prevent browning

The enzymatic browning of grape must is still a major problem in oenology today [1] being particularly serious when the grapes have been infected by grey rot [2]. Browning is an oxidation process that causes certain foods to turn brown, which often leads to them being rejected by consumers [3]. This is a particular problem in the case of wine, because grape must is very vulnerable to enzymatic browning [4].

Assessing the feasibility of direct injection for pesticide residue analysis in grape juice by liquid chromatography/triple quadrupole mass spectrometry

In Brazil, the regulation of pesticide residues is guided by the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), emphasizing the importance of monitoring pesticide levels in agricultural products to protect consumer health.

Enhancing grapevine transformation and regeneration: A novel approach using developmental regulators and BeYDV-mediated expression

Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is a challenging plant species to transform and regenerate due to its complex genome and biological characteristics. This limits the development of cisgenic and gene-edited varieties. One hurdle is selecting the best starting tissue for the transformation process, much like isolating suitable tissue for protoplasts. One promising method involves delivering crispr/cas components to protoplasts isolated from embryogenic calli, which are then induced to regenerate.
